19 11월 4학년 동네학 수업 이야기
4학년 아이들은 신체는 물론이고 호기심 역시 왕성하게 커져가는 시기를 보냅니다.
세상에 대한 궁금함이 무럭무럭 자라나지요.
그 발달 시기에 맞추어 4학년에서는 동네학 수업이 시작됩니다.
내가 발 딛는 이곳에서 시작되는 동네학의 포문을 열고 나아가
매일 걸었던 동네길을 걸으며 하나씩 하나씩 내가 속해 있는 이 세상을 향해 마음을, 그리고 몸을 뻗어 나갑니다.
직접 걸으며 느끼며 숨쉬며 경험하는 이 땅의 굴곡과 산의 높이와 개울의 깊이는
글로 배우지 못할 많은 것을 아이들에게 전해줍니다.
아이들은 자신의 온몸으로 이 세상을 배워갑니다.
아이들은 동네의 이야기를 들으며 이름의 유래를 듣고 새롭게 깨달으며 탄성을 내었습니다.
이제 자신들이 몇 번 국도를 통해 학교에 오는지 알게 되었고, 이 마을에 몇 번 도로가 지나는지 어디로 뻗어서 어떻게 갈 수 있는지 알게 되었습니다. 산 정상에 올라 우리가 배운 마을들을 둘러봅니다.
“선생님, 같은 땅인데 저기 기흥구는 정말 아파트가 많고 사람들이 많이 모여 살아요. 그런데 뒤쪽 처인구는 집이 별로 없어요. 너무 신기해요.”
“고속도로가 진짜 산 사이를 뚫고 지나가요. 저 고속도로는 강원도까지 가는 거죠?”
아이들은 수업 시간에 배운 것을 직접 느끼며 산 정산의 바람이 몸에 스미듯 배움을 온몸으로 받아들입니다.
동네학을 마치며..
우리 아이들이 적었던 글로 마무리해봅니다.
‘아무리 작은 마을이라도 얼마나 소중한지 걸으며 느꼈다.’
‘그림으로도 글로도 이야기로도 알 수 없다. 지도로는 작지만 걸으면 엄청 크다. 동네학은 내게 아주 큰 깨달음을 주었다’
‘걸을 때는 힘들지만, 정상에 가면 즐겁다. 그래서 걸을 때도 즐겁게 걸을 수 있다.’
‘난 이제 동림리가 왜 동림리인지 안다. 모현의 뜻도 알고 심지어는 처인구의 뜻도 안다. 용인 이름의 뜻을 알게 되었다!’
